5 Strategies to stop watching porn
Written by Christoffer Nettelbladt on September 16, 2019
Are you looking to quit porn? Here are 5 great strategies.
The reasons for stop watching porn are many. Frequent porn use are known to have negative effects on the brain, that are reversable by stop watching. When a partner finds out about the offer partners frequent porn use they often experience severe trauma.

Stop watching porn is known to give more happiness and fulfilment. I know this to be true, partly through my own journey out of porn addiction and partly from seeing the effects on my clients.

Don’t get me wrong, fighting of porn addiction is the hardest thing I’ve done to date, but it’s also the best thing I’ve done to invest in myself, my future and my family.

The fact that 56% of all divorce cases are caused by one partners frequent porn use are motivation enough.

What actions & strategies can one use to quit porn for good?

Everyone is different and recovers differently, but some strategies and tools are crucial for anyone to successfully quit watching porn.

1. Educate yourself – Know your enemy
By actively searching for information in articles, studies and books on the topic.

There are several good books on amazon for example.
Here you will find weekly articles on the topic released every Monday.
2. Get accountability software
A nonnegotiable success factor is creating a distance between you and the problem.

This is easier said than done with porn.

When recovering from drugs, its essential to cut social bands with people related to the drugs and stop visiting places where they can be bought.

When recovering from alcoholism its critical to get rid of whatever might be at home and stop visiting bars.

You can’t make the statement that porn isn’t welcome in your life anymore, its always there in any connected device.

What you can do is to raise your defense against it by installing accountability software on phones, pads, and computers.

There are many good ones out there:

Covenant Eyes

Are just two examples.

3. Get a support network – know you are not alone
Porn addiction thrives in isolation, secrecy, shame and guilt.

To break the addictive patterns and gain momentum in recovery it is critical to break isolation to get the “snowball” effect in motion.

Through my closed Facebook group Porn Addiction – Unite In Recovery I offer a supportive network to anyone that want to quit porn.

The benefits of a closed Facebook group are many:

Only members of the group can see who the members are.
Posts in the group can only be seen by other members.
This means that you can break isolation and utilize a supportive network without anyone in your life knowing about this, if you don’t want them to. Your friends on Facebook will not be able to see that you are a member of the group or any of the posts you create there.

Within this supportive community you can:

Share your story
Listen to others
Gain new perspectives
Learn insights from others
Share your discoveries
Connect with others in the same situation that truly understand what you are going through
4. Extract the lesson and keep fighting.
” There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to change; not going all the

way, and not starting” – Buddha

I always arm my clients with those ancient words from Buddha.

The journey towards change is not a straight and easy one, but getting back up after falling, extract the lesson and pushing on is the only way to get there.

Don’t beat yourself up if you have a setback. There is a lesson there. What caused the setback? Was it boredom, stress, loneliness or something else.

Find a new and healthy way of dealing with that situation and push on!

5. Consider professional help
It is wise to learn from experience and even wises to learn from someone else’s experience.

After twelve years of being addicted to porn, failing to recover on my own for 14 months, fully recovered after 3 months with professional help and coaching my own clients out of porn addiction I know firsthand the struggles involved.

Recovery is not to be taken lightly regardless if you go at it alone or with professional help.

Going at it alone you must find the doors, open them and walk through.

A professional coach can show you the doors and open them for you, but YOU must be the one walking through them.

It takes commitment, hard work and consistency.

Don’t let those words scary you, it is just a blunt and straight up reality check to keep in mind.

“Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.”

Bruce Lee
Here is a few words by some of those that have recovered with me as their recovery coach.
